the mirror of the divine—the True-Self pendant!

The True Self sees with the eyes of Love. It sees the divine spark hidden in the heart of each of us. By lookin' into the eyes of the True Self, ya' can see your own divinity—the source of divine Love itself! That's not just me goin' off on another one of me rambles either.

Here, let me play somethin' for ya'. Listen to this:
The X-ray eyes of faith, which penetrate through outward appearances, perceive all things in God and God in all things....The divine energy in itself is infinite in potentiality and actuality. Creatures are localized manifestations of it. If there is no obstacle in us, no false self, we become spiritual transmitters through whom the divine presence as boundless love and compassion communicates itself to others in ever-widening circles of influence.

True-Self Pendant
The True-Self pendant.

Kinda' takes your breath away, don't it? Does mine anyway. Not just because it's fine silver and 99.9% pure either, but because o' what it represents—The True Self! The Self that sees the divine presence in others and reflects it back like a saintly mirror! Otherwise, the heart's just a black, sooty thing that only looks out for itself!....What?...Ya' never heard o' the True Self?

Here, let me bring it down to earth for ya'. The True Self is the hidden, Christlike self in all of us and the enlightened self on Eastern shores where all them Chinamen live. In any faith, it's the ultimate goal of mysticism! Wear it close to your heart and pretty soon ya'll be lightin' the way to Heaven for others as well!

That's not all. It's packed with love! Dudn't it remind you of a baby spoon? Me Mom, bless her sainted soul, kept mine all those years just to remind herself of me! She stayed back in Éire, you know...Now, now, none o'that. You'll get me a'weepin' too! It was she that wanted it, after all.

Anyway, this here spoon—I mean medallion—it's kinda like that. It reminds me of how the Holy Mother Herself was watchin' over me when me own Mom wasn't there to do the job. And now, God bless ya', it's you that's doin' the watching over. That's what I hear anyway. That's the way it should be. That's the Lord's way. That's why they call it the True Self! (True to Him, in other words.)

If you want one of your own now, you're gonna have to write me old friend, jimwhiteside@hotmail.com. I'm just too broke up at the moment to be of any help to him. Besides, he does just fine on his own.

Tell 'im ya' heard the mead talking again. He'll know what ya' mean. That's what he calls it when I get to talking 'bout me Mom. "Have ya' been hitting the mead again?" he'll say. "I have not," I indignantly lie!

(Meet me out back if ya' wanna try some. I'll get ya' a good deal!)

With a lovin' heart,
the leprechaun
Please note: Because these are handmade, no two are alike. Ya' can't actually see yourself in polished silver either, only a ghost image of sorts. That's what makes it the perfect metaphor for the divine self. It'll not only make ya' proud, it'll remind ya' to become what this only represents!

True-Self Pendant

Don't tell me these things don't look good on men either. Even I wear 'em...a leprechaun, for goodness sake. As you can see, I'm partial to turtlenecks. It's such a great combination, though, it even looks good on women...'though they've usually got their hearts set on silver chains, for some reason. It's all a matter of taste, of course—yours!

Personally, I like the Greek-goddess look myself...with the pendant worn on the forehead. As I said, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. You can even wear it on your arm if you like. If you do, though, you have to promise to send me a picture!

PENDANT Quality Cost
The True-Self Fine Silver (99.9% pure) $144

In case you're wondering, fine silver is not just another name for sterling silver. Sterling is only 92.5% pure. The rest is usually copper, but not always. It does have a fineness rating (of 925), but legally can never called "fine silver." To earn that designation, it has to be pure. That's why we chose it for the True Self, the purest form of the self—the divine self!

All ya have to do now is choose a chain. If you don't order another one, it comes with a twenty-inch, black leather cord with a sterling-silver clasp. The cord, however, is only one-and-a-half millimeters thick. That's just too thin, if you ask me. I don't even know why they include it. No one ever wears it. Of course, you probably got sump'thin' at home you can use. If so, ya' can skip all this stuff and go ahead and order.

If ya' need help matching a chain to the pendant, however, you've come to the right place. All four of these things look great. I even have two, for goodness sake, and I'm a man.

1. A 16" black-satin, 4mm cord with sterling silver clasp.

3. An 18" sterling-silver, Omega chain. It's also 4mm's thick.

4. A 24" sterling-silver, snake chain. It's 4mm's thick as well.

Unfortunately, they don't all cost the same. As you can see below, sterling silver is much more expensive...

NECKLACE Quality Length Thickness Cost
Twisted satin 16" 4mm $19
Braided leather 18" 4mm $24
Omega chain Sterling

18" 4mm $96
Snake chain Sterling

24" 4mm $198
These prices are contingent on the purchase of a pendant.

Personally, I prefer the leather for men and the Omega for women, but truth be told they all look good on women. They're lucky that way...like the Irish! Let me know if ya' find sump'thin' even better and I'll add it to the list.

From me, of course,
the leprechaun
P.S. Even if ya' haven't found your saintly side yet, I'm sure you can relate to one of me favorite sayings in the old tongue...
"Is maith an scáthán súil charad."
Translation..."If it's a good mirror ya' be a'needin', look in the eye of a friend." It's just such a friend Fr. Keating's asking us to be!
